Read the FAQs About Our Plumbing Services
Q: What types of plumbing services do you offer?
A: We provide a comprehensive variety of plumbing services, including leak repairs, water heater installation, repair, and maintenance, installation of water softeners and water filtration systems, and more.
Q: What do your drain cleaning services include?
A: Our drain cleaning services cover everything from routine maintenance to emergency repairs. This includes clearing clogged or slow drains (sink, tub, shower, etc.), high-pressure water jetting to remove stubborn blockages or buildup inside pipes, and sewer camera inspections to diagnose problems deep in the drain or sewer line before digging or major repair.
Q: Do you handle both tank-based and tankless water heaters?
A: Yes, our team provides installation, repair, and maintenance services on both tank-based and tankless water heaters for gas or electric models.
Q: Why should I consider installing a water filtration system or water softener?
A: Installing a water filtration system or softener can provide several benefits. This includes cleaner and better-tasting water for drinking, cooking, and bathing; a reduction in contaminants, chlorine, heavy metals, and other impurities; prevention of mineral buildup (hard water scale) that can shorten the lifespan of appliances like water heaters, dishwashers, and washing machines; and lower reliance on bottled water, which saves money and reduces plastic waste.
Q: Do you offer emergency or after-hours services?
A: Yes! Beyond our regular business hours, we also provide emergency services. Call or contact us as soon as possible to schedule service.
Q: How long has Bommer Plumbing and Drain Cleaning been in business?
A: We were founded in 1975, and have proudly been a family-owned company since then.
Q: What areas do you serve?
A: At Bommer Plumbing and Drain Cleaning, we serve Camden County, Gloucester County and Southern Burlington County, NJ.
Q: Why is my water pressure low?
A: Low pressure can come from mineral buildup, a partially closed valve, or a hidden leak. A plumber can identify and fix the exact cause.
Q: Why does my toilet keep running?
A: This usually means the flapper or fill valve needs to be replaced. It’s a quick fix that can prevent water waste and higher bills.
Q: How do I know if I have a hidden water leak?
A: Watch for rising water bills, damp spots, mold, or the sound of running water when everything is off. A leak detection test can confirm it. We also highly recommend installing a Moen Flo for real-time monitoring and protection. For more details, please visit.
Q: What should I do if my drain keeps clogging?
A: Recurring clogs mean buildup deep in the line. Professional drain cleaning removes debris safely and prevents long-term damage. We also recommend a camera inspection. This allows us to see exactly what’s causing the blockage—like tree roots, buildup, or pipe damage—so we can fix it correctly the first time.
Q: When should I replace my water heater?
A: Most heaters last 8–12 years. Signs of replacement include inconsistent hot water, strange noises, rust-colored water, or leaks.
Q: Can I flush wipes/feminine products?
A: Only flush the 3 Ps: pee, poop, and (toilet) paper. Even wipes labeled “flushable” can clog pipes and damage plumbing systems. Stick to the basics to keep your drains flowing smoothly.
Q: What can I put down my disposal?
A: For a complete guide on what foods are safe to put down your garbage disposal, visit the InSinkErator guide here: What Food Can I Grind?
Q: Why does my drain or dishwasher have a smell?
A: Smells can come from food buildup in your kitchen sink or from a clog or break in another drain. Try grinding citrus peels in your kitchen sink drain to freshen it naturally. If the odor persists, the issue may be a broken or clogged drain—call us to have it checked and fixed.
Q: What does it mean when the lights are flashing on my water heater?
A: Flashing lights indicate a warning or error. Check your water heater’s owner manual or the legend on the unit to identify the issue. If you’re still unsure, call us and we’ll help diagnose and fix it.
Q: Can I clear my own sink or tub drain?
A: We recommend using a drain zip tie. Give us a call, and you can pick one up for free right at our shop!
Q: If I have a leak from the water heater tank, will I need to replace it?
A: If the leak is coming from the tank itself, it will most likely need to be replaced. Give us a call and we can inspect it and recommend the best solution.
